Overview Of The 4 Stroke Engine
By Anthony Hudson of Crash Nullage
When the starter motor is engaged. This turns the "flywheel" around, that's bolted to the "crank" in the "block". This causes the pistons 1st downstroke'the "intake stroke" to suck down petrol from the "carburettor" through the open "intake valve/s", positioned in the "head". The 1st upstroke the "compression stroke" of the piston/s then compresses the air fuel mixture which is ignited by the "spark plugs" at the top of it's travel.Causing the 2nd downstroke the "power stroke". The 2nd upstroke the "exhaust stroke" then pushes out the burnt air-fuel mixture that's left over from the combustion process through the "exhaust valve/s". To finalize the simple overview of the 4 stroke engine: 2 downstrokes + 2 upstrokes = 4 strokes The intake stroke, the compression stroke, the power stroke & the exhaust stroke equals four strokes of the 4 stroke engine. |
